I’ve been pondering the phenomenon of ‘lifestyle labels’ for a while now. These labels have caused me moments of deep anguish and anxiety and self doubt over the years as I’ve been on my own personal health journey. Continue reading
When I was growing up my parents had a very strict budget. They had been beaten rather brutally – as many were in the 80s – by 18% interest rates, the recession and then basically loosing a home that was their dream. The market where we lived in Far North Qld slumped and there were no buyers for the beautiful home they had built when it came time to sell. It was sold eventually, but they walked away with the shirts on their backs and their health. Continue reading
The weekend wrapped up over night and I for one am feeling pretty good about embarking on the week ahead. I did some nice things over the weekend and I thought I’d share those with you. Maybe you are looking for some nice times inspiration?
On Friday night I went to the movies with a girlfriend and we saw Lady Bird. Holy cow it was such a nice movie. It’s a coming of age film about a girl finishing high school in Sacramento and she calls herself ‘Lady Bird’. Continue reading
Wednesday is the one day of the week we don’t have to be anywhere at a certain time. We take things slow and I make sure I sit and talk and play with the kids as they seek my attention. I’m being mindful to enjoy these slow Wednesdays because come next year I’ll have a preppy on my hands and there will be somewhere to be every week day. Continue reading
One of my favourite things to eat are nori rolls. I bloody them. Being home a lot with the kids means that I don’t have the opportunity to eat them often so I came up with the idea a while back to make salads that are based on nori rolls. I’m sure this is not an original idea. I think it literally came to me one day after I made nori rolls for the kids and I couldn’t be bothered rolling any for myself. Continue reading
Each year I can almost guarantee you that I will receive a Jamie Oliver cook book for Christmas. The man is quite the marketing genius and I am also very fond of him, so I am really very happy to receive his books as gifts. They are always rather lovely and I have a couple of go-to recipes in each and refer to them when my meal plan needs a bit of jooshing. Continue reading
My eldest daughter is in kindy and yesterday was library day. I cannot tell you the joy I felt when she showed me her kindy library book for the week – Sally’s Secret by Shirley Hughes.
I’ve been lucky enough to travel to Italy twice. Both times I concentrated my adventures in the Tuscany region. I am a lover of wine and food and I just couldn’t help but go back there. Continue reading
Mondays are one of my favourite days of the week. The weekends are busy. Even when we have nothing on, they are busy. There is swimming lessons and catch-up cleaning and park visits and mowing and markets and meal prep and baking and bike riding and games where we all play together, and sheet washing and sprinklers to run through and naps to be had. See, busy. Continue reading
