Round-up and check-in

It’s been a while since I sat down and wrote. Before Easter I was really very regular with it all and had this great little routine going where I had made the space to write. Since Easter the routine has gone a bit haywire and subconsciously I think I’ve felt a little ‘not bothered’ because I know the routine is going to change again when I go back to work in a couple of weeks.  Continue reading

Easter meal plan

A couple of months ago I announced to my family that “this Easter we aren’t going anywhere – I can’t even.” With three kids in tow and varying sleep schedules it just seems a bit too hard. And you know what, we make a bloody big effort to visit people over the holiday seasons and I had kind of had enough of dragging the kids around and then having to deal with the behavioural aftermath of tired kids and “bored” kids in the car and the repitive “why does it take so long to drive to so-and-so’s house”. Gah! Continue reading

Cake files: birthdays, banana bread and vegan brownies

Over the last five days I have made three (3!) cakes – sounds glorious doesn’t it?

It all started on Saturday morning. I whipped up my go-to celebration cake while Shane took the two big girls to swimming lessons and the baby was asleep. It was my Grandma’s 87th birthday – her first birthday since my Pop passed – and we were heading to her place for lunch on Sunday. Mum was taking lunch and I put my hand up to make the cake, because it really is the best cake.  Continue reading

Nice times report

The weekend wrapped up over night and I for one am feeling pretty good about embarking on the week ahead. I did some nice things over the weekend and I thought I’d share those with you. Maybe you are looking for some nice times inspiration?

On Friday night I went to the movies with a girlfriend and we saw Lady Bird. Holy cow it was such a nice movie. It’s a coming of age film about a girl finishing high school in Sacramento and she calls herself ‘Lady Bird’. Continue reading

Suspicious pancakes

Wednesday is the one day of the week we don’t have to be anywhere at a certain time. We take things slow and I make sure I sit and talk and play with the kids as they seek my attention. I’m being mindful to enjoy these slow Wednesdays because come next year I’ll have a preppy on my hands and there will be somewhere to be every week day.  Continue reading

Nori roll salad

One of my favourite things to eat are nori rolls. I bloody them. Being home a lot with the kids means that I don’t have the opportunity to eat them often so I came up with the idea a while back to make salads that are based on nori rolls. I’m sure this is not an original idea. I think it literally came to me one day after I made nori rolls for the kids and I couldn’t be bothered rolling any for myself. Continue reading

Jamie’s sausage carbonara

Each year I can almost guarantee you that I will receive a Jamie Oliver cook book for Christmas. The man is quite the marketing genius and I am also very fond of him, so I am really very happy to receive his books as gifts. They are always rather lovely and I have a couple of go-to recipes in each and refer to them when my meal plan needs a bit of jooshing.  Continue reading
